I hope people do take note, we get them landing in our field but fortunately no wildlife casualties yet, can't see the point in them at all (or fireworks for that matter which will be starting again quite soon)

I thought there was a move to ban these things? I don't see how anyone could see that picture of a barn owl entangled in one and ever send another sky lantern aloft. Perhaps the RSPCA should spread that photo about more- a few billboards should do it.

I also thought these things were going to be banned because of fire risk but obviously not. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has turned down calls for a ban after concluding that the risk of death and injury they posed to livestock was "low". They cause problems all over the place it seems - www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-23129276.

Risk of death and injury being "low" is not a good enough reason to let people carry on releasing these things, any risk would be enough in my opinion to ban them outright - they can hardly be classed as a necessary item. What a load of nonsense and the comments from readers simply highlights the idiocy we're up against.
