Cairncams,(or rock piles) are good for wee stuff, and they don't come much smaller than Pygmy Shrew ! O.K It's not the clearest but shrews never seem to stop or even slow down ! EK000305 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Wrens often creep into cairncams .Note how big it appears compared to the pygmy shrew. Best of all they snaffle all those troublesome spiders which insist on building webs across the stage ! EK000484 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Know what you mean about shrews never seeming to stop. Sometimes we get a mouse on our trail camera and most of the time even on the video it is a blur. Good one of the wren. This one is from a little earlier this month. We are lucky enough to have pine martens and badgers visiting the garden. If the martens visit first they are very alert to other arriving and leave before the badgers appear. This marten was caught out but made an athletic exit. Even though the hearing of badgers is good I'm not sure it heard anything. Dave www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwFqZBx2vOc

Decided to leave cam on during the day to see what was emptying squirrel feeder so fast, so as well as coal tits and blue tits going for the peanuts, no surprise the jays won out followed by woody, poof red squirrel barely got a look in.

What sort of feeder is that, Nelly? It looks like a birdhouse with an extra large entrance so that they can get in and out, is that right?

What sort of feeder is that, Nelly? It looks like a birdhouse with an extra large entrance so that they can get in and out, is that right? I had my handy man knock these up for me, I got the plans off an American site, as I could find no squirrel feeders in UK at the time - there are some now but have lift up lids and my wee Nutty is a bit thick, only the jays worked out how to use them, so it is a square box with holes either side into the box which is fitted with a plastic jar. The idea being that the squirrel can enter the box and at it's leisure select nuts or eat nuts. Unfortunately woody is the same size as Nutty and the tits like going in there also. I put stoppers on the entrance holes to stop the jays, but they jays just broke them off. The entrance holes are in the process of being made smaller again. I have two of these feeders in different locations.
