I have to confess I haven't even looked this up yet, I just thought it was such a fun fungus that other people would like to see it. It was a on an old lichen-covered branch on the ground, under scattered oaks by a Perthshire track. So any proposed IDs welcome. Yellow Peril by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Take a look at " yellow brain fungus " it may fit.

Thanks, Vince. I admit it wasn't hard to find – Tremella mesenterica – and turns out to be not uncommon. I was just very taken with it, never having seen it before, to my knowledge. But then, I have never really got into fungi: so much to do, so little time – fungi, mosses, invertebrates . . . And I'm still learning so much about vascular plants.
