This was taken between 2 and 3 am this morning on the coast in NW Scotland. From this morning's news I think I missed the best part which apparently happened earlier in the night. It was the best display I have seen but even so visually it was not as intense as the photo. I could see the odd column or curtain of light but without any of the colour and in general the main effect was that the north and north western horizons were noticeably brighter than elsewhere. Lucky you, unfortunately I have large hill and trees which block any horizon northwards, however one of the ladies from 'Country Mumkin', just round the other side of hill, got really good photo around 9.30pm, surprised so early but it was really dark and the sky filled with stars.

I'm intrigued by the "Country Mumkin", but this is what I heard on the TV this morning - the brightest display was much earlier. Still there is always next time. Looks like ( www.aurora-service.eu/aurora-forecast/ )there may be another chance, though not as good, tonight. Fingers crossed Dave

Daughter and I did drive out the area - but it was cloudy! Country Mumkin - an artisan café, in a restored old church set up by two mums. As well as nice food, they have craft workshops and fun times for kids. if you stop off for a coffee you can have a go at various crafts or even play the old bellow pump piano. A couple of very enterprising ladies. I am off to Sweden soon so maybe I will get to see aurora there - never seen one!

Thanks Nell. The Country Mumkin sounds interesting, especially as my wife and daughter are keen dyers, spinners, knitters and weavers of natural fibres.
Hope you have a great time in Sweden - come back and post the photos here, please.
