Yippee! First time I have seen the moon in what seems like weeks - weather driech. Taken early this morning and saw the moon in a break in the clouds and rising mist. amazed managed to get such detail - freezing cold hands and hand held camera. The first is a good one, Helen with some excellent detail in the craters.
I am still a bit surprised that the best photo I have taken of the Moon was with my old bridge camera (Panasonic FZ28). I try with my DSLR and a 300mm lens but I haven't nailed it yet.

Low iso, fiddle with the shutter speed and f-stop and supposed to be best while there's still some light left in the sky oh use cable release or timer, one day I'm gonna try this myself ian

Thanks Ian. I've done that but I still have not produced anything as good as the handheld shot did a few years ago. Just got to keep trying.

After a strange day that started with dead calm (BTW Dead Calm is an excellent film) we had odd colours in the sky mid afternoon - pinks and orange - it ended like this Dave

Fabulous photo Dave. I could have so kicked myself yesterday. Been raining and heavy wind, Then suddenly dead calm (eye of storm?) and the sky went deep orange, it was awesome with the autumnal and green trees lit by this strange light. The gardener and I stood there wondering what had or was happening (apocalypse) strange feeling of unease. Before we knew it the wind changed and dark clouds appeared and it go almost dark, well dark enough that I had to put the light on. Oh I so wish I had taken a photo, now it will just be a memory.

Dave, that is a fantastic photo! It was clear again here this morning for about an hour- I was able to get this photo of a thin crescent moon as it came up. I liked the way the whole of it was still visible. Moon Rise Oct17 2017 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Thank you all. I think I will have another go at the editing as the lightest parts look a bit odd.
Good shot of the 'old moon in the new moon's arms', Rowan.
The next few nights (if they are clear, are going to good for picking up crater detail on the Moon.

Nice photo, the skies over Lincoln are full of contrails and they do form some great shapes at times ian
