I found this flowering plant in three locations along a 2km stretch of the River Dove yesterday, I haven't noticed it before and am struggling to id it. Any ideas? Shirl Flower by Shirley Freeman, on Flickr

Not native, but commonly naturalised from North America, it's Monkey Flower, Mimulus guttatus; though from the image it's not possible to exclude its hybrid M. x robertsii.

Many thanks for the id, I am not sure why I haven't noticed it before as I have been checking that stretch for water voles for years but usually I am there in April / May and September / October.Maybe the flowering season was a bit later this year?

Saw some of your water-vole pictures via the link, you're clearly a very good photographer - superb pictures.
