I very nearly didn't see these- it was only when I went to pick up a feather in the grass that I spotted them, they were so small. Almost grey-ish in colour, and there were only four of them, close together. I didn't dare pick one to have a look at the gills, because I thought they appeared to be so fragile I thought they might fall to pieces if I attempted it, but I did put a 1p down with them for size comparison. I'd never seen mushrooms with these petal-like caps... at first I thought they were very pale little flowers. They had vanished by the afternoon.

This is an Ink Cap. Once these were all in the Genus Coprinus, but this has now been split into 4 parts. For a definite determination, microscopic examination is required but this may well be Coprinopsis cortinatus which is not uncommon.
