I saw a Jersey Tiger for the first time over the weekend in a friend's garden. I saw a flash of orange as it was flying about, (they flop more than they fly, actually) and thought it was a Red Admiral until it landed on a wall near me and folded its wings. It had distinctive black and white stripes, but took off before I could get my camera phone working.
I had to do a few searches on the web to figure out what it was... surprised to find out it was a moth, since it was out in the middle of the day- only wish I could have got a photo!

Nice, it's still a moth I've not seen before. Hopefully they'll make their way over this direction Nige

They are spreading well around London. Had a brief view of one flying on my patch yesterday. They look as though they should be a vanessid butterfly when you see them flying by day.
