We usually get large flocks of black headed and lesser black-backed gulls arriving during ploughing of local fields. Yesterday I struggled to spot any black headed gulls but would I be right in thinking that the youngster in this rather poor photo is indeed a black headed gull?

The middle bird is an adult Black-headed Gull moulting out of breeding plumage. Also a similar looking bird in the furrow behind.

Thanks - I never thought about moulting changing appearance like that.

It's sort of the in the middle. Give it a week and it'll look like a normal basic pluamge BHG.
