Do skylarks have second broods?
I was out earlier today in an area where skylarks breed. In the spring and early summer at times the sky was full of sound of the skylarks singing while displaying.
Towards the end of June it was much quieter, but this morning there were at least three flying and singing. Have they likely to have finished with their first brood and are trying for a second?
Until today when it has rained since about 10am there has been a lot of warm/hot dry weather.

I guess if they breed early they may be able to?
I've seen Skylark singing through the summer though and had some last week singing, maybe it's just a territory thing.

They regularly have 2 and even 3 broods in a season.

If they are still breeding which sounds likely by their territoriality they will almost certainly be on 3rd broods, with the only exception being they are replacing lost 2nd broods with another breeding attempt. Most Skylark within a given area need to produce 3 broods a year to regulate the population.
