It was a question I asked not long ago. I think it depends on who you ask. The county recorder here says you probably can do it reliably, but he always likes to dissect just in case. I would say yours is good for A abietella looking at the markings. Lovely moths when they are fresh.

Thanks Nige. Somebody in the Herts moth group also agrees it is a D. abietella, because of the 'wavy dorsal line'.
