I haven't been birding for a month but today I decided to go after the Red-footed Falcon that has been north of Stoke on Trent for a week. It was showing ridiculously well and quite often flew down to the ground near to all the birders to pick up any insects it saw. Sadly it was so quick doing this that I found it impossible to focus on it with my camera.

A very smart bird from the photos I've seen of it.

That's correct. There was a chap that had been feeding them before I got there. He had a couple left and the bird flew down for each of them to about 30 feet away. It was also picking off insects that it found itself.
I managed a few photos but they are not that good but at least they are record shots.

I got a phone call tonight at 9.20pm from one of my mates stating that he was watching a Night Heron, five miles away from where I live, at the Meadowlands Fisheries, Ryton on Dunsmore.
Within five minutes I was on my way and a few minutes later joined a few of my mates on the bankside of one of the pools. Looking through one of their scopes I could clearly see the bird even in this diminished light.

Rainham today:
199 Wood Sandpiper
Had hoped for Yellow-legged Gull as good numbers reported in the week but hardly a large gull around; mostly Black-headed Gulls.
