Hi, here's a problem that I've had ever since I first plucked a wildflower from a hedgerow and used my teeny-tiny mobile 'phone to try to photograph it, after saying to my Wife - "I wonder what this flower is - it looks really interesting" - I never seem to be able to get all my 'stuff' properly organized! I've of course got thousands of photographs, hundreds of bits of paper with notes all over them, together with some of my rather embarrassingly-bad drawings on them, etc, in fact here's a list of some of the things I have gathered during my ever-growing interest in wildflowers and their identification and characteristics....
My house is full of,
Now, who has a good method to organize, keep tidy, correlate, preserve, keep accessible, safeguard and generally build
a cohesive and coherent 'system' from these resources to enable me to keep track of everything, refer to everything when needed,
share with others some of my activities and 'keep on top of' the whole lot!?
Particularly I need to rationalize and organize my electronic media as this is becoming an ever-increasing proportion of my record
as I continue studying wildflowers and botany in general.
How is everyone else keeping it all under control?
My house is full of,
- photographs (on computer & some hard-copy)
- notebooks (containing of course notes and a few drawings/diagrams etc)
- books on wildflowers, botany and microscopy - some of which are pretty hefty
- a home-made herbarium-press containing dried specimens
- many, many jars containing specimens preserved in 75% alcohol
- packets containing tiny parts such as pollen and seeds
- hundreds of mounted microscope-slides of plant parts
- cameras and tripods
- saved web-resources - most on computer, many printed hard-copy for easy reference
- 'project' notes of identifications of different plants encountered - how to format or store these on computer?
