Must be that time of year two young Pine Martens out in daylight, delight to see one eating the sultanas and peanuts I put out at night, then the two of them having a runaround having a play by the bridge before running up into the forest. Young Red Squirrel did not seem bothered by them and continued burying nuts on the lawn.

Got to be young Pine Marten, managed to get a few photos of it getting peanut butter on bread which I had left under cover on the deck. It does not like the bread so was bring it out onto the deck and just scraping off the peanut butter. later another very nervous young Pine Marten came and had a look around, it stood on the window cill put its front legs up against the glass to look in. I didn't want to move in case I frightened and the B..... camera decided it was going to flash. I saw our lame fox cub this evening... still favouring that one hind leg, but he's putting a little weight on it now.

Got this photo just at dusk this evening- the cubs are looking more like full-grown foxes now, just a little leggier than an adult.

Meet 'Bob' my neighbour's rabbit. A very determined wee fella who made a bid for freedom last week and evaded all efforts to recapture him. Last seen heading for the woods and fields South of our village. I hope he eventually finds a Mrs Bob to share the rest of his days! Bob 02 by Alf Parker, on Flickr Alf

If Bob was a pet and handled quite a lot he would not have achieved the instinct for survival that wild rabbits have developed from a young age, but Hey! he might just get by on that score, hope he does Good luck Bob, Duncan

An update on Bob!
Either mate finding didn't live up to expectations or Bob just got bored but somehow he found his way back to the village and turned up at a house near the centre of the village. The property owner did what me and the rest of the local population failed to manage - he caught him! Bob is now safely installed back in his hutch in our neighbour's garden. In a way I feel rather sad that he has lost his freedom again.

Duncan.
I'm glad Bob is safely home again, (as I'm sure his owner is, too) and I hope he did enjoy his few hours of freedom.

Mammal of the day last night, This is one of the Hedgehogs that come into my garden at night around 10.15 pm, I have a hedgehog box that I made 2 years ago and last winter I had a hedgehog hibernate in it, hopefully it will use it again, I gave it a clean out and Painted the outside with Autumn Gold Ducksback and have now put some Meadow sweet hay in it, I hope it appreciates the trouble and expense I have gone to, ( actually, it's left over from painting the fence), I cut a piece off the bottom of the gate so they can get into the garden, a hole 5" x 5" is just right, their territory extends over about 6 gardens, I put food out every night fattening them up for the winter, I use Spike hedgehog food, semi moist and a dry Spike food and I add some Peanuts and a few dried mealworm. I am sure it waits in the shadows watching me put it out, the most Iv'e had in the garden at one time is 3 hedgehogs. Duncan DSC05509 by Duncan Mclean, on Flickr

Good shot of a generally little seen animal.
Last year we had a hedgehog appear on the trail camera in September and wondered if it would make it through the winter. I can't be sure it is the same one but in the spring this year one turned up again and is picked up by the trail camera every two or three days, or so.
Unfortunately it usually appears in the early hours of the morning.
