Several summers ago, we were looking after a friend's dog, and I put salt around her outdoor waterbowl to keep the slugs out of it. After awhile, I noticed that the sparrows would come and peck at it... they also pecked around the mortar between the bricks in our garden wall until they created big gaps! Now, I go out every day or so and put salt down for them, and they'll come within a few minutes of me putting it down... but I wonder why it's only sparrows who do this? I never see any of the other garden birds show any interest in it. Sparrows and Salt Apr 2023 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr
