The first spawn has appeared... but, not in the pond. In the birdbath. The sparrows were not impressed. I got it out, and moved it into a pond basket. Looks like I'll be getting some bags of watercress over the next few days- it's too soon for the pondplants to be emerging yet.

Think you're around the London area too, so surprised your first has arrived relatively late.
My first was nearly 4 weeks ago. It's been my most productive season for quite a few years & the last spawn was probably nearly 2 weeks back.
A walk this morning in the local country park revealed quite a few strands of new toad spawn along with the older frog spawn.

yes, I've checked calendars from past years, and they are a bit late... but this spring the sheer quantity is amazing- I've put out extra pond baskets (filled with watercress) to provide them with 'nurseries' and they've filled them. The cascade is full of spawn, and now they are spawning around the edges of the pond (they've not done this before). If all this hatches, I'm going to have record numbers of tadpoles! Fingers crossed there's not a late frost. I tried to count the number of frogs this afternoon... at a rough estimate, there was over 40. Seven of them were in one basket. They do flail about, so it was hard to tell.

That's a very healthy total. Hope they continue to thrive!

Frogs were very active in a lochan in Laide Wood(north of Poolewe) and some spawn in smaller ponds and slow moving streams a few days ago.
