That's a shame... I wonder what it is about it that's electrocuting them? I know nothing about electricity, but surely if those wires are live, wouldn't that be dodgy when it rains?
Everyone makes a fuss about the windfarms, but this might not even be that uncommon- I've seen this sort of electrical contraption before.

There wouuld need to be a continuos column of water between the wire and the ground for the current to flow to the ground instead of through the wire. I've not heard of this happening even in the heaviest of storms. I don't know if it is true but a powerful jet of water(eg from a powerful hose) played onto the wire could, I heard, provide a continuous link and cause a short circuit. I'm guessing(hoping) no one has tried it.

Could it be a bird of prey's feeding post? Cheers, Tony.

I wondered about the bird of prey too also if they perched on one wire and another wire were not to far away would there be chance of the current arcing? I may have a ride out there to have a look she says the it's a nice walk around the fields ian

I think the phrase here is 'Voltage drop'. the difference in voltage between the two wires is so small there is no danger to the budgies! I think...
Cheers, Tony.

Here's a little update.
Yesterday the daughter and a friend were walking in the same area and noticed fresh bodies under the same power lines and on the way way back swear she heard a crack and both saw a bird fall this time a song thrush by the looks of it.
I think I'll look into reporting it there must be a web site or phone number to call if you have any concerns about these power lines and there safety ian
