I'm generally seeing a lot fewer of many insects this summer. At Kew today plenty of Honey Bees but bumblebees much fewer, though we did see some. A few tiny solitary species too. Hoverfly numbers also seem low.
My garden is packed with plants to attract insects & it has been somewhat disappointing.
We had a mild winter & generally warm year, but overall it's been very dry in the south-east this year. We;ve had a few showers recently but the amount of rain negligible. I think this may be a factor.

In my youth...Buddlea bushes in flower were swarming with every kind of butterfly and insect. Sadly no more. Cheers, Tony.

I've noticed the same... fewer bees, and the butterflies have been declining steadily for years.
We made a trip to our local garden centre last week, and I couldn't resist the dwarf sunflowers in pots... brought one home, and a bumblebee found it before I got it planted.

The trick will be keeping the slugs off of it now... unfortunately they like sunflowers too.
