Agree both look distinctive. Can't place 1 but looks familiar. The second you may have struggled with as it's a micro (a larger one!- so possibly not in your books if they only cover macros. It's Anania coronata, one I have recorded in my garden. A close relative of the Small Magpie, in the same genus.

Great, thanks lads. Light brocade looks good and my book describes it as local up North, so even better! The A. coronata was resting right next to a small magpie and I thought they had a lot of shared characteristics.
