On a walk today I spotted this tree -
- and thought it was a little odd as it looked as if all of last year's leaves had died, but remained on the tree.
When I got closer I saw the' dead leaves' were actually lichen growing on every stem, branch and twig.
I don't think I've seen a tree so covered in lichen.

Impressive. Presume this is at your Scottish site rather than east London?

Yes, it was in Flowerdale, Gairloch.

Thanks Dave-guessed so! Some of the UK's western coastlands have internationally important lichen as well as moss/liverwort communities.

I've never seen one covered to this extent!
