Ian's comment in 'Bird of the Day' about hearing a tawny owl for the first time in ages made me think that I too haven't heard one for years.
We have lived fairly close to a cemetery for about 40 years. When we first moved here hearing tawny owls calling to each other was a frequent delight every year, for many years, and it was obvious the owls were in the cemetery.
I can't exactly remember when that changed but I haven't heard any tawny owls for, I would guess, close to ten years(if not more).
As far as I have seen nothing has changed in the cemetery - it still has neat bits and overgrown bits and there are plenty of mature trees - so I can't guess why we no longer have tawny owls.
Has anyone else seen any change - good or bad - in their numbers?

We never hear owls where we are, so unfortunately I couldn't say. The ones I have noticed that seem to be lower in number are the blackbirds. I miss them.

Agree about blackbirds - not as many as there were a few years ago.
