I think most of us will have seen the news of the destruction of the osprey nest at Llyn Brenig.
Some people are just beyond belief.
The hope is the pair of ospreys, who have been sitting close to the destroyed nest, will take up another nest platform.

Heard this on the radio news yesterday-utterly appalling news!
Iolo was saying there was hope they would re-lay elsewhere. Let's hope they catch the destructive morons who committed this illegal act.

Just.... disgusting. They think the vandal arrived by boat; the lake is popular with fishermen. waronwildlife.co.uk/2021/05/01/wales-osprey-platform-cut-down/They want to find out who did it? Right, then- close the lake for the rest of the year to ALL fishermen. You'd better believe that would get somebody to talk.

This is complete speculation but three candidates come to mind -
(a) a random act of vandalism, similar to, though more serious, than the incidences of hides on nature reserves being destroyed.
(b) one or more persons with has a grudge against Welsh Water, or
(c) one or more persons from the angling community.
I wondered if it could have been egg collectors and from what I have read some will go to great lengths to get an egg. However, cutting down a nest several metre up in the air, in the dark(it happened about an hour after sunset) and trying to either catch an egg or retrieve one from the water, seems unlikely.

I know web pages get out of date quickly as news move on but I would have thought(hoped) Welsh Water would have updated the osprey page of the Llyn Brenig webpage to reflect what has happened.

Fly fishing tends to attract very reponsible people so I cannot believe they would do this, so my money would on vandals some of whom are sheer evil. I don’t know if members had heard about the lady who had her dog stolen but some evil so and so led her a merry dance playing mental mind games with the poor lady, only to laugh down the phone saying they hadn’t got the dog at all.
