Can't believe it's that time of year again already... next weekend, Jan. 29th-31st.

Anyone else having a problem with completing the online list for the Garden Birdwatch? Two birds I saw that were not on the picture list were ring necked parakeet and great spotted woodpecker. I tried to enter both these birds in the box below the photos - the box immediately after Have you seen something that isn't here?
Type into the box below to add a bird to your list. Once you've added it remember to enter the number you've seen. If you're unsure what you've seen you can check our Bird Identifier.
I thought I had been successful but neither of these two birds were recorded in my Top Six pie chart shown at the end of submitting the result.
The GSW could have been omitted from the top six as I saw only one, but I recorded three parakeets so they should not have been missed from the top six.
Puzzled.

The weather here was so dire today I've put off doing it... Gusting winds, sideways rain... about all that braved the elements today were sparrows, starlings, and one wren. It's supposed to get quite cold tonight, but there might be a bit of sun in the morning. Well done getting three parakeets, Dave!

Parakeets first turned up here a few years ago and we would see them flying over the garden a couple times a week. In the last few months they have been regular visitors to the garden. It is rare for one or more(I think the maximum is 5)not to visit the feeders every day.

That has to have been the most disappointing Garden Birdwatch result I've done to date. Barely more than a dozen birds, (almost all of those sparrows) and I think if the woodpecker hadn't turned up I'd be tempted to not even submit them! No goldfinches, no great or coal tits, no robins... all the daily regulars must have been lured away to some other garden with superior suet pellets.

lured away to some other garden with superior suet pellets. Made me smile rowenberry thank you The guy over the road here must be using them too 'berry flavoured suit pellets' he was telling me the other week he's getting regular visits from nuthatch. I only catch a quick glimpse. I've never done a big garden birdwatch counting the different species would be easy but individuals nigh impossible ian

In our garden it is the goldfinches that are the most difficult to count. There are so many of them and they are very rarely still. This year I counted 12 but there could easily have been more.

I didn't take part as I seem to have been abandoned by the visiting birds for the last week! No idea why but "nobody".

All the birdfood suppliers have been having sales on prior to the run-up to the Garden Bird Watch. Your birds will be back next week when your neighbours' feeders run out.

The last 3 or so years I've been away for a long birding weekend in Norfolk with friends but for obvious reasons this year's trip was called off, so did my count on the Friday morning. Fairly average but had:
3 Wood Pigeon 3 Ring-necked Parakeet male Blackbird 5 Starling 3 Robin 2 Dunnock 2 Blue Tit 2 Great Tit 1 Crow 1 Magpie 15 House Sparrow 3 Goldfinch
Sadly couldn't count the Red Kite that flew low over the garden.
