There is quite a lot of this on one part of our roof but until today, when I was on a ladder clearing leaves from one of the gutters, I could not get a close look.
It is about 10cm in diameter. The roof faces west but is on south side of the house so gets very hot in the summer.
Is this a species of Xanthoria?
Thanks
Dave

Think it is a Xanthoria which are quite common on roof tops-especially when fertilised by bird droppings!

Thanks Aeshna. The are no obvious bird droppings but I assume parts of them dissolve in the rain. We also have a fair bit of moss which is odd given the orientation of the roof, but we have had a lot of rain in the last couple of months.
Thanks Ian, as with most of my photos a lot of luck was involved and the bright low sunshine.
