This year the garden has been visited by two great spotted woodpeckers and now they are daily visitors to the peanut feeder.
We have noticed in addition to eating while on the feeder they often take whole peanuts from the feeder(some of the mesh of the feeder has been opened up by those bushy tailed ratty things) to eat elsewhere.
In the garden we have a four large wooden posts linked by horizontal cross pieces for plants to grow up and across. The woodpeckers have the found holes that I drilled in the upright posts are good places to put the peanuts when feeding.
The result is the woodpeckers have a good place to hold the peanuts and stay longer in the garden which is great for observation.
