Seem to be the main type of tree growing around coastal areas of NW Aberdeenshire up near Fraserburgh towards Banff.

Would have been useful to have had a close-up of a leaf Nelly! From what I can see of the leaves looks like Sycamore, which is often grown by the sea as it's fairly tolerant of salty winds.

Just zoomed in on the leaves and they do look like sycamore.

Herewith close up of leaves (can only post one pic at a time). I also think the leaves look like sycamore, but the trunks and no bark, look nothing like my 2 sycamore trees, which is why I am puzzled or do they lose their bark due to the salt and being blasted by the winds from the North sea? As I thought Sycamore. The sea would make a difference.

Thanks all I must say, having never visited before, had not appreciated just how different - flora and bird wise the North East was to us here in the North West.

Must say the bark colour confuded me too. If I had not been able to see the leaves I would not have thought they were sycamore.
