Started earlier in the year when C-19 stopped them doing their normal "attendee" talks. Royal Observatory Edinburgh Visitor Centre runs talks about various astronomical subjects. Not very technical but set at a level for general public interest. They are free though you have to book a ticket (online) which is e-mailed to you (link with instructions) and I've not got any SPAM, only the "ticket" link e-mails. I listened in to several (subjects that interested me) and they were good. Ticketing is through a 3rd party site and last year (before their summer break) number of tickets was limited so you can't always decide 10 mins before the start. They are open to everybody (nothing limiting to Edinburgh or Scotland). www.roe.ac.uk/vc/public/astronomy-talks/index.htmlIan

For info: They've recently set the schedule for a load more talks, running through to next March. Some subjects more "technical", others more general interest. One subject covered that is one of the areas I find fascinating is the Life Cycle of Galaxies (but galaxies and Globular clusters are the types of astronomical object I find most amazing).
