Am I right in thinking this is a female blackcap? Not a common sighting this time of year; we normally only see them in the winter. Female Blackcap Aug 2020 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

I hardly ever see them in winter here yet several pairs breed in the woods across the road every year ian

Interesting comment about normally only seeing them in the winter. Years ago most of the bird guides would have said blackcaps were summer visitors that migrate south in the winter. Now it seems quite a few, in some areas, overwinter.

I've recorded them every winter, in my garden, for the last fifteen years or so.
One year, in the early Spring, I had three pairs visit.

We only seem to have them now and again... I went back through my folders of bird photos, and these were the last good pictures I got of Blackcaps. The male was taken in Jan. 2013, and the female in March 2013. I put an apple out for the one I saw two days ago, but she's not been back yet.
