Normally we're spoilt for choice at Stanmore, but some days the birds just decide to take a day off. Not a buzzard, not a kite to be seen, and even the little birds had vanished. The only kestrels were miles away, (well, not actual miles... about a quarter of a mile) and all they did was sit in the tops of the dead trees at the edge of the woods. They would move from tree to tree calling to each other, and then they'd sit... and sit some more. A bit of preening, have a look around- move to the next tree and start preening again. This went on for over an hour, and I finally gave up and started photographing bees. I suppose the fledglings have recently left the nest, and the parents were enjoying a nice relaxing afternoon break. Can't say that I blame them, really- after weeks of hovering for hours on end, they've earned it! The only bird I got a semi-decent photo of was of a White Throat.
