This has to be a first... but I'm really not sure what animal it was!
We were driving on the way to Stanmore, in North London when a deer bounded across the road. It was very small, but managed to get over nearly in a single jump... at first I thought it was a Gold Retriever or something similar- Snowlynx initially thought it was a fox. Too slender to be a muntjac, (although I'm going by photos of them- they look a bit stocky.)
I'm not sure if it was a Roe or Chinese Water Deer, so I guess an ID is going to depend on the area. I'll try and pin down a more exact location of where we saw it- quite a busy road, large houses along it but also some woodland as well.

I'm not aware of any sightings in the London area of Chinese Water Deer & they are a species usually found by wetland habitats.
Muntjac are common in the outer parts of London so strong possibility. Roe Deer are increasing from the west but not that small.

Thanks, Tringa and Aeshna- it happened so quickly it didn't even register with me that it was a deer until it was gone. That's a first for me- I hadn't seen a muntjac before.
