This year for the first time the cherry tree in my garden (which produced white blossom in spring) has fruited. Three blackbirds are enjoying the crop each day, flying into the canopy again and again and reaching acrobatically for the cherries. Some of the outer branches don't support their weight so they have to leave those cherries alone. Now I've just seen a great spotted woodpecker (another first for the garden) feeding on and under the tree, but probably looking for ants rather than cherries...
I'm new to the forum, so it's great to be here!

I was shocked the other day seeing a rook in a neighbours cherry tree eating what looked like small hard nowhere near ripe blobs of cherries. Another neighbour complained about same rook eating their cherries (but a bit too soon to regard them are "cherries"). But my tree is being left mostly alone - but it's still quite small.
But none of us net the trees so all the cherries always go to wildlife anyway so in realirt nobody is losing a crop.
