When we were at Stanmore Country Park today, (waiting for buzzards to appear) I tried to get good photos of all the little birds flitting about in the hawthorn bushes and brambles. It wasn't until I put the photos on the PC that I realised they weren't the same birds... I think I might have taken photos of three, possibly four different ones. Bird #1 was very vocal, and also hovered extremely well- whether defending its territory or chasing insects, I couldn't tell. I'd be grateful for any id on any of them! I have the usual problem of being unable to enlarge the images but 1 is clearly a Common Whitethroat & the behviour sums it up well. 2 Dunnock 3 looks like a Linnet from what I can make out & 4 I would say Chiffchaff.

Thanks, Aeshna! I need to make more of an effort to remember them... we don't get over to Stanmore very often, and I tend to forget them between visits. The Whitethroats' behaviour and the way they fly is especially distinctive. I must try harder.
