I've decided with lockdown, time I learnt a bit more about bird ID (on which I'm totally useless as this question well demonstrates). Never really tried to tell the difference between Dunncocks and Sparrows but last night (early morning) my trailcam caught this guy and from looking in my books I thought a Dunncock (bill and plumage - mainly eye and neck from looking in my books). Am I right or totally way off? Many thanks (end expect more pretty basic questions as I try and get to grips with more bird IDs if I find more shut at home). Ian

Many thanks. When you see them pictured beside each other they are very different. But on their own (and in low contrast black and white and without having ever thought about it not as immediately obvious). Made me wonder more as I have a sparrow nesting box (a 3 house one) nearby - or at least I used to have one but it got taken over by a honeysuckle some years ago so it might still be in there) and see a fair number of sparrows coming to the feeders.
