It is amazing what a bit of dry weather and sunshine does, albeit freezing cold. It has bee a couple of years since I have seem the Oil Beetles here and there are masses of them wandering about Black Oil Beetle May 2020 1 by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

Great photo Helen. Been some years since I last saw one- don't seem to see them down here.
There are 5 UK species & yours appears to be the Black Oil Beetle, Meloe proscarabaeus. They have a very curious life cycle dependent on solitary bees.

I know it is nature but at the same time sad that they need the solitary bees to lay their eggs in
