As you know we have had an exceptinally wet summer, and it continues to rain. Although my Pine Martens and Red Squirrels are doing ok (I feed them) I have come to the conclusion that other mammals are not doing well at all. On my CCTVs I have caught the Fox eating apple (leaving the skins) and peanuts, the feral cats eating sultanas, peanuts and last night one eating the peanut butter on seedy bread that I put out for the Pine Martens. I have not seen the badgers for ages nor the roe deer. The wood mice and voles are ok as they feed around the feeders collecting what the birds drop and out the bowls I put out for the pine martens and red squirrels. Though these are also used by the jays and wood pigeons. Feral cat on veranda 1 by Helen Skelton, on Flickr Feral cat on veranda by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

It's been raining more than usual down here, too. Had another massive downpour (with hail mixed in) this afternoon.
I was watching the woodpecker trying to eat from the peanut feeder earlier today, and I'm thinking I might have to put a larger rain hat on it- as it is now, the water drips down the poor bird's back. It's not doing the peanuts any good either, being constantly soggy.
