This was clinging to the outside of our kitchen door this morning, and before I could take a photo it had flown away. I saw it several more times after that, and finally saw it just before lunchtime clinging to the ivy on the fence, long enough for me to take this.
It was quite large- about 4cm in length, and the underside of the wings are a completely different colour- a dark orange, although it never folded them long enough for me to get a good look.

Jersey Tiger- over the last few years this has become quite common in the London area. It used to be restricted to the Channel Isles + parts of South Devon around the UK..
In flight it looks like an exotic butterfly with bright red, orange or yellow underwings.
