I have lots of slugs mostly the Black Slug Arion ater, which love the woodland and boggy areas and are not actually a problem in the garden area. It is the smaller plant loving slugs that are a problem. I have a ban on slug repellants, so my gardener cuts drink bottles into rings with copper tape around the top and puts these around the bottom of the plants. So to the warning. In a well known garden centre they were sell a 'New' eco firendly slug repellant, made from sheep's wool. Delighted I bought two bags. Spread the repellant all around the plants in my raised garden, especially around the sunflowers, which had been planted along the bac,k and whos leaves were being nibbled. We could not believe our eyes! Next morning there were about 20 Black Slugs on the repellant and more making their way across the drive way. They must have somehow been attracted by the smell (it did have a nasty smell). I got my poor gardener to pick it all up and get rid of it, including the unopened bag. If you want to attract slugs buy some of it! Black Slug Arion ater by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

So it works by attracting them? I wouldn't want this either... I just want them to go away!
That is a very black slug... the ones we have are stripey.
