I have two different sized tads in my pond, toad and frog. Now this is not a very good photo but do have a close look. This is one large tadpole that has now got it's back legs (which you can see) and it was eating a smaller tadpole. Is this normal? I feel very sorry for the frog tadpoles, of which I have very few left, what with Newts, Greater Diving Beetle lavae, the ducks when they were spawn and now it seems toad tadpoles - wonder if I will have any left at all. Oh and I forgot to mentioned i seem to have aquired a fish, salmon parr or maybe trout. It must have got into the pond last year and managed to survive, it is about 3" now. my pond takes water from the burn, when the water is high enough and also flows out back into the burn. Anyway interested to know if you have come across tadpoles eating tadpoles before. Big Tad eating small Tad by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

I've never seen that before- but almost all of mine are roughly the same size. The newts seem to leave them alone now, fortunately! I don't have many at all, either.
