Well, the pond now has a few oxegenators in it, (I apologise for the size of typeface, it's the eyes you know)!
At the pond shop they do not get a delivery of Daphnia untill Friday so we bought a little sachet of teeny tiny bloodworms. Upon checking with a popular web site all I can find about them is fish food, fish food, fish food. Are they of any other benefits these creatures provide in a small wildlife pond (SWP)??
Could anyone recommend the type of snails we should pop into our SWP?
Cheers, Tony.

I've put ramshorn snails in our pond before- they seem to make it through the summer, but then I never see them again. The frogs might be eating them, I just don't know what happens to them.
I did find this article... and some others that mention snails as pests are usually fishpond websites. I might get some more ramshorns this year- can't do any harm, since the newts ate all the tads.
I've made the typeface large for you! Computers are hard on the eyes, I know.

Over two hundred pounds... for ten snails and a handful of hornwort!!!
Ah-ha... I clicked on the "1,431 sold" next to the feedback link, and all the previous listings were for £22.49... so they've made an error when re-listing the price.
Even that's pretty steep- you could get ten strands of hornwort from an aquarium shop for about a fiver, if not less... and mine has survived the past five winters without any problems. I have to weed hornwort out of the pond about twice every summer.
Have you decided on what sort of snails you're going to get? I'm still considering getting some ramshorns, but I'm worried if they are too small the newts will make a meal out of them.

my newts and ramshorns seem to co-exist successfully I set my pond up before knowing not to transfer material between ponds, so went around a few locally and took weed, mud etc from them. Maybe that's how I got newts
