This morning I tried to deal with some Rhododendron ponticum, with only limited success - think I have a job tomorrow and a few days more.
Two of the branches had grown very close together and the constant rubbing created an alteration in their shape. It was the first time I had seen this and also been able to get to the branches.
We all know this happens fairly frequently but I found it interesting to see it close up.
Although I have cut these out of the bush this shot is what they looked like in situ.
This give a slightly better view of how closely the branches were together.
and this is the interior of each branch.
I just found it fascinating.

It makes me think of those braided olive trees sold in garden centres... it must take years, and loads of patience to achieve it artificially. I think it is amazing how trees can adapt to situations if they have to.
