I have already asked for ID on a wildflower site, which has not come up with an answer, one says Cuckoo Flower, one says Stitchwort another suggested Mallow. The stitchwort has 10 seperate petals and the cuckoo flower has 4 petals. This one to me looks as if it has double layer of 4 leaves, or maybe four very frilly leaves. I do have Water Cuckoo Flower and it dones not look like this. So any ideas? it is growing on the island in my pond which actually stays quite dry. the top or the island was made up with top soil, but as you can see the plant is surrounded by Soft Rush. Can you post photos that show the leaves + the structure of the whole plant? Definitely not any type of mallow or Cuckoo Flower.

The only leaves are those showing almost like jasmine leave on reddish stem bottom right of photo. As I said it is one an island in my pond and is only just visible through the soft rush. My daughter is going down to the pond later today (if the sun comes out) to see if she can zoom in on the plant or try to take it from another angle. So if she succeeds I will post photo.

Here is another photo. It is almost impossible to get a clear photo, yoou can see the leaves on this photo, but I think first photo shows leaves better. The leaves show middle top of this photo and bottom that the buds are almost grouped. It also shows that there are more than 4 petals (Ithought there were only at most four) but thre seems to be a least 6. DSCF4676 by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

NellyDee if your struggling to get a good clear up close photo and you've got one of those printer/scanner thingies pick a little and scan it into your computer. I've used this to scan flowers and leaves before and it can work really well, makes some good still life pictures if you have a little artistic talent ian

Ian I used MS Picture manager where you bring up your photo on screen and crop it down to specific bit you want to zoom into, crop it, and then make the cropped bit back up to any zoom you want. The photo above was done this way, but any bigger and it begins to look hazy. The photo was taken from a long way off. Hopefully in a couple of weeks time, and it is still flowering, I will be able to gt a close up. A friend is coming up with his wetsuit t go across and weed the island, want to get rid of the soft rush. The island by the way is where my husbands ashes are in a granite urn.
