My partner often brings home moths that come to light in her office in Finsbury Park, North London. I couldn't identify this recent one. It's about 10 mm across. Is it some sort of Pug? IMG-4502 by Wabi Gallery, on Flickr

Welcome to the forum alastairrae
Doesn't look like a pug but it might be because of the way it's resting. Looks quite worn whatever it is!

We get so few moths in inner London that I like to get a positive id on every one I find (or at least the macros). It's a very under-recorded area.

Common Lutestring was suggested on another forum. Apparently you get blackish-brown melanic forms in the London area.

Could well be yes. Not one I've seen before.
