Found recently on Arran. This rock fascinated me, for a start it looks like a dog. But is is its formation and different colours and rock types intermingled that makes me wonder what they are that have obviously been squashed together by volcanic eruption. - Rock found on shore by Helen Skelton, on Flickr As the camera has not picked out the colours very well, I have on, its other side, put the colours. Helen, that realy does look like a Labradors head, ears and all, The glazed bit, light green, could be fluorite crystal mineral on the top of the rock in pic 1, looks like it has been on the floor of say, a cave and water containing salts or other minerals has dripped on to it from a height forming a thin layer that has crystallized, the red rock underneath could be a red sandstone, I love your photos, that rock gives us something to think about and discuss. thought provoking or what? Duncan ps; where did you find it?

It was found on the South end of Arran facing Kilbrannan Sound, but cannot remember exactly where. Daughter and I are inclined to collect interesting rocks, but not noting exactly where we were. Also on Arran we found this looking like an Iguana. It was nearer the top end, facing Kilbranna Sound. On the ridge below it were what looked like footprints, so being stupid as usual, we reckoned it was this Iguana. Rock like iguana by Helen Skelton, on Flickr

I think you have just shown me the iguanas spine Helen , that is some formation of rock there, and in a straight line along the ridge,it makes you wonder how it was formed as well as when. Duncan
