I so wanted to take this home but there so delicate it would just crumble away about the size and shape of a rugby ball and the colours were great no activity around it and not sure if it's bee, wasp or hornet last year a couple of hundred meters away I found the remains of a hornet nest on this site that was quite easy to tell because of the size of the cells. I wouldn't break this up to check I'd rather leave it for others to find. used to find lots in roof spaces years back ian Untitled by ian robinson, on Flickr

Good find. I can understand you wanting to take it home, they are fascinating structures. From photos I have seen, I think it is a hornet's nest.

I saw a very small one when I was in Canada last July... I labelled the photo as a hornet nest, because I presumed that's what it was. It was only about the size of a cricket ball- not quite as impressive as the one you've found!
