Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) seems very popular with all the hover flies

Agree with the hoverfly ID; however Alf, Hibiscus syriacus is well a Hibiscus + looks nothing like this, being a shrub in the mallow family.
Rose of Sharon (as in your photo) is a St.John's-wort, Hypericum calycinum.
