These have been flying high overhead almost every morning for the past week or so... I'm not sure if they are swallows or house martins. They don't appear to have the long forked tail of a swallow, but I always thought house martins were lower-flying birds... before, I've seen them skimming along over the grass in fields and that sort of thing.

They're neither! They are the totally unrelated Swifts which are far more common (though in decline) in urban environments.

Well, that explains it why I could see them when they were so high up... I suppose the other two being smaller would be nothing but dots in the sky.
I looked for them again today, but they weren't about this morning.
Thanks, Aeshna!

As said, definitely swifts. Not seen very many this year at all. Neither seen many swallows or House Martins either...Seen a few sand martins but only at their nest site...
