"The next time you’re at Chris Packham’s house, rifling through his kitchen looking for a snack, for God’s sake, don’t look in the freezer."
I love it...

The story about Chris Packham and road kill brings to mind a man I was acquainted with many years ago in the North Pennines. I'll call him "Bill" - not his real name but anyone from that time and locality will immediately recognise the person to whom I refer. An extraordinary, eccentric but highly intelligent man, he was physically disabled having just one functioning hand and arm. The other arm hung limply at his side. Inspite if this he was fiercely independent making little, if any, demands on others or on the state.
Bill regularly walked miles around the countryside. A member of a local wildlife organisation, he gave guided walks/talks on wildlife and was a skilled forager. He was also fond of roadkill. When I visited him there was usually some sort of carcass in the kitchen sink waiting to be turned into his supper. Sadly, one evening walking back home from Penrith, he was hit by a car and killed. Ironic really that a man who lived so much of his life relying on roadkill should end his life as roadkill.
