Initially thought someone was up in the hills with very strong spotlight (light shining through gap in curtain at 2.00am). Very surprised to see it was the moon low on the horizon and it was shining bright orange like a sunrise. Tried to get photo - this the best I could do. What causes this orange glow?

Hi nelly dee It's caused by the atmosphere with it being low on the horizon it as more of the atmosphere to pass Through than if it was high in the sky Neil

Actually I also noticed that the moon's color has changed recently to a much yellower hue. It has this mystical aura, I think the name is a harvester moon and it si due to the position of earth and position of the sun! Will try to take a photo tonight

Thanks gts Although it was light most of the night, last night the moon was hidden behind the mountain you can see in photo, well at least for the time I was up.
