Something that has really irritated me since moving to an urban area is the deluge of plastic charity collection bags which pours through our letter box. I'm sure most recipients throw them straight in the refuse bin so the vast majority end up unused and in landfill sites. Some of the people doing this have been shown to be not real "charities" at all but are using this as a way to make money and there is evidence that "no charity bag" stickers on doors rarely work. If we have useable items we no longer need we donate them to reputable charity shops or take them to recycling centres - I just wish the genuine charities would take a lead in stopping this practice. www.zerowasteweek.co.uk/unwanted-charity-collection-bags/www.businesswaste.co.uk/call-for-ban-on-wasteful-tide-of-plastic-charity-bags/

We get a lot of these through the letterbox, too. Sometimes up to three in one week, and it does get ridiculous. They don't collect them like they are supposed to- even the filled bags I put out a few times were left outside until I brought them in again.
I think I'll take the advice of one of the replies in the article... turn them inside out and use them to take things to the local shops I donate to, (and I've never had a bag through the door from any of them.)
