I don't make a habit of either picking up or photographing dead animals but I'm beginning to see a few of these of late by the side of the path through the woods. I think this may be a Pygmy Shrew, not sure whats with the white tip to the tail. ian P-woods 030 by IAN ROBINSON, on Flickr

I wonder what is killing them, since you say that you've found a few bodies recently.
There doesn't appear to be any injuries to the little thing- could it be some sort of local infection or disease?

They live + die at a fast pace + so not that unusual to see these unharmed corpses.

Some years I see quite a few bodies as I walk through the local wood the ones I see most of are slightly bigger and darker velvety looking this one was a lighter colour and furry looking if you see what I mean. I do catch the odd glimpse of live ones too. As said they live life at 100 mph and drop on the trot as it were. ian
